Join one of Atlanta’s most talented dance photographers, Shoccara Marcus of Shocphoto, at one of Georgia’s most photogenic locations in this powerhouse workshop! With professional dancers on site, this workshop is guaranteed to produce some stunning images. Work along side Shoccara, as she guides you through her workflow of creating her signature captivating dance photography.
Shoccara will cover a wide range of topics including:
Basic strategies for photographing dancers based around lines, shape, design
Troubleshooting to achieve the ideal shot with dancers
Being aware of the environment connection to the dancers
Natural lighting techniques
Camera settings and equipment
Born in Bridgeton, NJ and raised in Atlanta, GA, Ms. Marcus began her relationship with the arts through dance. As a young child, she attended and participated in afterschool programs and local dance schools. Her passion for the arts flourished once she reached high school, attending Tri-Cities Visual & Performing Arts High School in East-Point, GA. While in high school, Ms. Marcus was exposed to the various facets of dance, theatre and visual arts. These opportunities cultivated her interest in pursuing the arts as a career: combining her passion for dance and love of photography.
Ms. Marcus obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a minor in Visual Arts-Photography from Howard University. Thereafter, she received her Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta, GA), and has since worked extensively both nationally and internationally. She recently completed a study-abroad program in Lacoste, France, as well as, curating her first gallery exhibit. Ms. Marcus’ work has been showcased at: China Jinan International Photography Biennial, Dance Teacher Magazine, Exposisition des étudiants in France, Gallery 72, Gutstein Gallery, Hammonds House, Museum of Contemporary Art (Atlanta, GA), Lucinda Bunnen Selects at Atlanta Photo Group (APG), Peachtree Gallery, and Savannah College of Art & Design. Nominated in 2012 for the RAW Photographer of the Year, Ms. Marcus premiered her first dance photography book Thirteen Moments in April 2013.
