Amicalola Falls State Park

Amicalola Falls State Park is an 829-acre Georgia state park located between Ellijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville, Georgia.  The park's name is derived from a Cherokee language word meaning "tumbling waters".  The park is home to Amicalola Falls, a 729-foot waterfall that is the highest in Georgia.  It is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia.  An woodland trail that winds past Amicalola Falls and leads to Springer Mountain, famous as the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, begins in the park.

Join nature photographer Larry Winslett as we explore and photograph this waterfall at three different levels.  The mountain view from the Lodge above the falls also provides one of the great sunset locations in North Georgia and if conditions are right we will certainly take advantage of it.  This will be great opportunity to learn about photographing Mountain Streams and Waterfalls.  A variety of lenses, a polarizer and a tripod are recommended.  Sturdy shoes are advised as there will be some hiking but nothing too strenuous.
