Finding Your Passion- Feed Your Creativity with Richard Weinstein

Atlanta School of Photography is excited to host Australian commercial photographer, Richard Weinstein!

Sydney based advertising photographer Richard Weinstein will share his insights and experience of working in photography for the last 30 years.

Richard’s career began as a passionate hobby at the age of 13. Using a Russian made Zenit 35mm camera he started capturing images in a unique and creative way.

Thirty years later his love for image making has evolved into a successful commercial studio based in Sydney Australia.

To be a successful photographer you have to produce images that stand out, but taking photographs is only part of any commercial photographer’s life. There is so much more, like meeting with clients to discuss the briefs; the business of pre-production including the organising of models, locations and contracts; and then, of course, the post-production process where you edit your work for viewing by the client. I love the whole process People often think ‘I could take that photograph’, but could they really? I equate that attitude to photography to the way people feel about food. Many people cook for themselves at home and some believe they cook well, in the same way that many people think they can take photographs. Though most people cook every day, does not mean the master chefs are going to disappear. They are still at the top of their game, creating the finest food and a memorable experience.

Since I picked up a camera at the age of 13, I’ve never considered any career other than photographer and I have photographed everything imaginable, from food, fashion and jewellery, to children, dogs and some incredible humans, as well as machinery, technology and industry over the course of my career. Today roughly 50 per cent of my work is editorial, 50 percent advertising – I’ve enjoyed awards, accolades and a media profile during my career, but my greatest joy still is on the job capturing something visually that stirs a viewer’s sense, meeting new people and creating images that can make a positive change to our lives.
