Fish & Feathers

Tennessee Aquarium & Sandhill Cranes

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn how to work with high ISOs in low light for proper shutter speed

  • Handholding in low light and use of monopod

  • Photograph through glass and managing glare

  • Make good lens choices and why for indoor and outdoor wildlife

Registered students should plan to bring their camera gear, monopod (if you have one) and plenty of memory and battery power.   For the Aquarium bring a short Telephoto lens (28-200, 18-150, etc.) For the Cranes longer lenses will be best, 400mm, etc, as the birds can be at a distance.

Additional details and directions provided several days before the workshop. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Times & Registration

This two day event, starting on Friday, Jan. 24 th , to kick off the New Year begins with one of America’s top-rated fresh and salt water aquariums. It is only an hour and a half from Atlanta in Chattanooga, the Tennessee Aquarium! Stroll through the tropical forest for freshwater turtles, otters and catfish to the salty sharks, stingrays, penguins and other ocean wonders.  The jellyfish are fantastic.  Photographers will find plenty to shoot – there is even a Butterfly room!

On day two we will photograph Sandhill Cranes at the Hiawassee Wildlife Preserve on Saturday Jan.25th.  This one of the major stops on the eastern migration route for the cranes.

Starting on Chattanooga’s quaint downtown riverfront, this workshop makes for a wonderful getaway. (Some fine street photography as an added bonus!)
